Communicating a mood and creating an interesting
piece is what challenges me as an artist. Whether it be a landscape done en
plein air or portrait/figuretive work in studio, the compositional
possibilities are endless. While using oil paint, color, lighting, texture and
atmosphere are what make working from life wonderful. There is no substitute.
Before focusing on oil painting, I worked as a commercial artist and
photographer. American expressionism would best describe my style of painting.
In addition to my Bachelor of Science degree from UNC I have studied art in Florence, Italy. My postgraduate studies have been with Mark Daily, Kim English Ron Riddick, Skip Whitcomb, Jody Goodwine and Rich Hilker. I've received two Best of Show Awards and several first, second and merit awards.
